An important facet of a truly transparent and open government is the availability of good quality data that citizens and civil society organizations can use to inform their decisions and to get a clear picture on the state of affairs.
This brings us to the OGP commitment:
#4.4 Study global good practice on data disclosure for establishment of www.data.go.tz website that reflects high global standards to contain a substantial number of Government held data sets.
The government of Tanzania has yet to launch the data.go.tz website since making this commitment together with the other OGP commitments earlier this year. Our East African neighbours Kenya have launched a high quality website with data even segmented to the county level (website: www.data.co.ke)
Since we have yet to see any evidence of the data website and Kenya has been able to setup such a website, we rate this commitment - PROMISE BROKEN until such a time as the website is setup or there is evidence that work is carried out in setting up such a website.
